Tasting Notes

Sticking your nose into a glass of this 2001 T.B.A. is like staring down the barrel of a rifle: the aromatic blast will take your head off. An orchard's worth of distilled and caramelized pit fruits detonate on a fat, rich, dense and honeyed palate. All the while, blazingly bright citrus character as well as the wine's sheer density moderate the perceived sweetness, which is in any case incidental: a means to the end of super-concentration and rarifying of grape essences. There is in fact something of a Tokaji Esszencia aspect to this, a sense of something beyond wine in its viscosity and freakish concentration. Nut oils, pear drops, caramelized peach and plum eau de vie are among the more prominent elements that parade by in the finish. Who knows what further - if possibly glacial - development lies in store now that this elixir has been bottled? Score - 96. (David Schildknecht, erobertparker.com, Aug. 2005)
