Langtry Estate became the first winery in America to have its own AVA (American Viticultural Area, their appellation system) when the Guenoc AVA was created in 1981. And yes, the winery is named after the famous 19th century American actress Lillie Langtry, who bought the property and produced its first wines there in 1888.

Guenoc is one of the oldest wineries in California. Established by English actress Lillie Langtry in 1888, it is a sprawling 500-acre site in Lake County ... This is a great value for those of you who like a fruit-forward cabernet without those mouth-puckering tannins. Black berry and black pepper notes.
