Tasting Notes
The 2013 Dark Horse Shiraz is blended from three vineyards that have been supplying Flagstone since the late 1990s. Winemaker Bruce Jack told me how altitude plays an important role in imparting 'crunchy black fruit' in this wine. That comes across on the very seductive, very pure bouquet with black pepper and clove, which infuses the vibrant and detailed black and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and very harmonious and smooth, with polished blackberry and raspberry preserve fruit; there is plenty of white pepper, and a touch of ginger on the long and tender finish.
