TASTING NOTE: The 2004 Cotes du Roussillon Clos del Rey is 80% Carignan (the rest, again, Grenache) and even more darkly-hued in flavor than its 2006 counterpart. Roasted meats, toasted nuts, and concentrated yet fresh blackberry are mingled with iodine and crushed stone and there are savory, saline, meaty, and peaty dimensions to the finish - which practically comes barreling at you - that take one far from considerations of fruits and berries.
