From Wild Rock Wine Company (a subsidiary of Craggy Range), the 2008 vintage was grown in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay, and matured for 14 months in French oak casks (20 per cent new). Harvested at 24 brix, it's a blend of Merlot (71 per cent), Malbec (25 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (4 per cent). A top buy, it is dark, mouthfilling and concentrated, with youthful, brambly, spicy flavours, a gentle seasoning of oak and impressive density. Drink 2010-2015. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5).
