In the influential Italian publication, Duemilavini 2012, this wine received a score of 5 Grappoli out of 5. The written note was not yet available. The grapes for this wine (55% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, 20% Croatina, 10% Oseletta) are given five to six months' of drying - substantially more than Amarone (three months) and Recioto (four months, on average) - prior to pressing. The producer also use percentages higher than allowed in Amarone or Recioto for grapes other than Corvina or Rondinella and, therefore, uses the name Passito for this sweet dessert wine. Look for an enticing nose featuring prune, espresso, dark chocolate, tar and dried nuts. Sweet with good tannins supporting all the forceful flavours, it is super-intense and layered. Delicious now, it will also reward substantial cellaring.
