Description
Waimea means 'river gardens' in Maori, and the stony soils of Nelson are indeed of alluvial origin.
Tasting Notes
There's a touch of pink in this wine's otherwise pale lemon colour hinting at some extended contact with the grapes' skins. The nose suggests bright notions of apple, pear and stony mineral notes. It's dry, medium bodied with fleshy pear fruit giving it some density and crisp acidity providing exciting verve. This is a lovely Pinot Gris for a warm summer's evening. (VINTAGES panel, Nov. 2011)
