Tasting Notes
The Bellene 2007 Clos Vougeot satisfyingly combines the notes of game and leather with ripe, sweet fruit, in a manner familiar from so many of its stable mates. There is an ample sense of primary juiciness of cherry and grenadine as well as a savory and invigorating salinity, while suggestions of burley tobacco, vanilla, and peat add further interest to a long finish. This should hold up well for 6-8 years but at the same time - like most of the best reds of its vintage - can be thoroughly enjoyed already. Let's hope that the 2008 rendition (not entirely assessable when I encountered it, as detailed in my note) turns out as well as or surpasses this 2007. Score - 90.
