Tasting Notes
The most hedonistic of this quartet of wines is the 2004 Gallicant from a great vintage in Montsant. It is composed of 60% Grenache, 30% Carignan, and 10% Syrah aged 14 months in new French and American oak. Opaque purple in color, it has an impressive, kinky nose of toasty new oak, spice box, kirsch, wild blueberry and violets. On the palate the wine has thick, opulent blue fruits, ripe tannins, and a pure finish. I'd argue for giving the wine 2-4 years of additional cellaring to allow further development and then drink it over the following 10 years. Score - 93. (Jay Miller, erobertparker.com, Feb. 2007)
