The promising 2009 La Bastide Saint-Dominique Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault from the sandy, clay soils of the northeastern part of the Appellation. It shows bright, fragrant aromatics of spiced red fruits, underbrush, licorice, and loads of underlying minerality and crushed stone notes. The palate is as good as the nose and has a superb texture, noteworthy balance and ripe tannin on the long finish. Score - 91-93. (Jeb Dunnuck, therhonereport.com, Aug. 2010)
