Description
Though Bodegas Campina was founded in 2005, the grapes for the Centenarias were sourced from vines planted in 1895. The Toro region is known for producing formidable and robust wines from the Tempranillo grape - not surprising for a region named for a bull - and this naturally occurring forcefulness is only intensified by the vines' age. This wine will offer sweet, ripe red fruit in a firm and structured frame.
Tasting Notes
The 2007 Vinas Centenarias was aged in French and American oak, some of it new, some for one year. Its nose is a bit more brooding and on the palate it is richer, riper, and a bit more serious. With outstanding concentration, excellent length, and impeccable balance, this awesome value will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and offer prime drinking [till] 2022. Score - 91.
