TASTING NOTE: Similarly-styled, but richer, fuller and longer-lived, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from very old vines planted in clay and limestone soils) possesses a dark plum/ruby color as well as an impressive nose of crushed rocks, cold steel, kirsch, black currant, plum and fig aromas. Medium to full-bodied with moderate tannin, it begs for 1-2 years of cellaring, and should last for 10-14 years. It is a blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvedre aged totally in old small barrels.
