A fine match for a charcuterie spread for a lunchtime gathering.
Tasting Notes
Tasted assembled from tank, the Sarda-Malet 2007 Cotes du Roussillon Reserve - Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and a little Carignan, all matured in barrique - smells of black cherry, purple plum, dark chocolate, and bay laurel. Fresh and distilled fruit character on the palate is accented by bitter notes of cherry pit, suggestions of iodine, and rich, low-toned chocolate and marrow-like meatiness. This polished wine exhibits a rather Bordeaux-like restraint and firmness of structure, but the flavors are very much of the classic southern cepages.
