Jim McEwan, who began his whisky journey working for the Bowmore Distillery at age 15, understands this as few others do. Under his guidance Bruichladdich has come to stand for the many unique now lost-to-progress distilleries that were unable to withstand the relentless march of large corporations that closed them one after another, something that Jim says, 'Just broke my heart.' His determination and non-conformist approach has earned his whiskies iconic status and him international renown. The Black Art series playfully touch upon his hands-on traditional methods by aligning his approach with alchemy, for surely nothing this good could be created by man alone. If Jim McEwan did not actually sell his soul to make this dram, you can be certain that he put it wholeheartedly into every aspect of its creation.
Tasting Notes
Deep amber/copper colour; aromas of caramel, dark chocolate, fresh nut and leather with hints of wood spice and brine; sweet entry, warm, rich and complex on the palate with flavours of toasted nut, dried fruit, dark chocolate, spice and honey; finishes is dry with briny/salty notes.
Serving Suggestions
Perfect for after dinner sipping; a luxurious accompaniment to chocolate or toasted nut based desserts.
