Description
This just in: Frappato is not something you order at a fancy coffee house. It's actually a rather obscure grape that is well respected in its native Sicily for producing fruity, flavourful wines that are often blended with other varieties (here, Nerello Mascalese) to elevate its complexity. DNA analysis has shown one of its parents is Sangiovese, so it has good genes.
Tasting Notes
Fairly intense youthful aromas including raspberry, black cherry, anise, volcanic rock and plum. Dry and quite plush but balanced with racy acidity and resolving tannins giving structure. Medium bodied with a medium-long and flavourful finish with acidity giving it a pretty lift at the very end. A meat-lover's perfect partner -- steaks, lamb burgers or kebabs, back ribs, etc. (VINTAGES panel, May 2012)
