Tasting Notes
(bottled 2012 ) yet again a fascinating, subtle difference to previous years. This time a vague nougat toffee underpins the much brighter fruity and crispy rye; a little more earthy, also; probably a first: wild cherries are plucked ripe and bulbous from the delivery, the intense fruity sharpness - with a just so touch of sweetness - masking the semi-aggressive roasty oak which accompanies it, though about half a beat behind. The mid-ground, despite a launching of tingling spices, remains juicy and mouth -watering, even though the grumbling oak tires to negate the freshness; the vanillas which show first midway through now make a much more confident grip. Like a kind of cherry trifle, the finale sweetens and delights; unquestionably showing a different side of its personality this time out, allowing the rye to show its fruity personality to the full.
