The 2009 TINTO 'QUINTA VELHA' is a blend of Touriga Franca (30%), Tinta Roriz (15 %),Tinta Barroca (15 %) and an old vines field blend, half aged in used oak for 12 months. This is a lovely low end entrant and the big bargain of the lineup, with nice structure, tasty and sweet fruit and some persistence on the finish, another example, perhaps, of how this big vintage elevated some of the lower level wines. It has a little flamboyance early on. It fleshes out in the glass and takes on more weight as it airs out, also showing additional purity as it airs out, with the sweet notes calming down; it opened with considerable richness, quite delightful in its own way. Not quite as concentrated in the mid-palate as it sometimes seems from the initial rush of fruit, this is nonetheless a bargain that also has reasonable structure. It should hold pretty decently in the cellar, approachable early and peaking in the next couple of years. Its siblings presented this issue may have more upside, |
