Tasting Notes
From two flinty sites south of Sancerre and along the Loire canal in Menetreol - whose respective lots I tasted separately and in approximation to their eventual assemblage (which won't be bottled until just ahead of the 2012 harvest) - the Thomas 2011 Sancerre Grand- Chaille smells pungently of mint, rosemary and diverse shrubs and hedge flowers; offers a vivacious and juicy mid-palate featuring Bartlett pear, musk melon, and pink grapefruit; and finishes with succulent persistence, delightfully balancing luscious ripeness with vivacity. I imagine this will display more stamina from bottle than its stable mates, rewarding 4-6 years of attention. Score - 90-91+. (David Schildknecht, erobertparker.com, June 2012)
