TASTING NOTE: The l'Aigle a Deux Tetes 2009 Cotes du Jura Chardonnay En Griffez Vieilles Vignes combines surprisingly fruit-forward and very ripe scents as well as luscious, expansive palate presence of Persian melon and peach, complemented by a creamy texture yet possessed of a levity and vivacity that can hardly be taken for granted in this vintage. (That it isn't even 13% in alcohol surprised me, too, and almost certainly points to distinctive talents on the part of this site and its ancient vines.) Deep, bittersweet nuttiness serves for counterpoint in a lusciously lingering finish, while hints of lanolin and coconut that point to at least a barrel or two still giving off flavors are well-enough integrated to be more beside the point than in any way awkward.
