The Rolly-Gassmann 2008 Gewurztraminer Oberer Weingarten Vendange Tardive projects a seamlessly rich, creamy, almost weightless personality, with vanilla, butter cream, white raisin, nougat, glazed pineapple, quince jelly, and litchi conveying an extremely confectionary aromatic and palate impression. Layered atop this is a high-toned, metaphorically cooling sense of herbal-floral liqueur (suggesting iris, rose petal, chamomile, mint), while the depth of toasted nuttiness only emerges in the long finish to help balance this elixir's candied, liqueur-like, and confitured elements. Here is another of those nobly sweet 2008s possessed of a strikingly savory finishing salinity that will leave your mouth watering for the next sip. Expect this to perform brilliantly for a quarter century.
