This unique sweet wine was one of only 11 wines out of a field of 275 to earn a Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines in 2014.
Tasting Notes
It is an understatement to say that the 2013 Discovery Series Botrytis Affected Viognier is an interesting and unusual wine. While it is known that Viognier can be affected by botrytis, I haven't been able to find any reference to finished Viognier wine made in this fashion. The wine has a rich, expressive nose that suggests sweetness: brioche, honey and candied fruit, and a basket of ripe fruit reminiscent of Meyer lemon, yellow apple, peach, orange and pineapple. The wine is sweet, with surprising acidity, low alcohol, with the sweetness giving an impression of richness. This is a wine that will repay an extended cellaring of five to ten years.
