Sourced essentially from the Wismer vineyard, a Niagara Bench site near Vineland, with small percentages of other parcels blended in, this is fine and open, fragrant, typically cabernet franc, with bright red berry fruit, sweet raspberry and fresh blond tobacco, with gentle cinnamon-tinged wood spice. The palate is fullish and firm, with ripe but gritty tannins and juicy acidity. There's a pleasant rusticity to this wine, although it's clearly ripe, with little of the green notes that characterize other cool climate examples of the grape. A solid value. Tasted January 2013.
