Tasting Notes
The 2013 Kirchenstück Riesling Kabinett trocken starts with an alluring fruit charm on the nose revealing fine, ripe Riesling flavors intermixed with subtle mineral, herbal and lemon flavors. Compared to the flinty, firm and aristocratic Hölle Kabinett trocken the fuller-bodied brother from the Kirchenstück, this is gentle and elegant on the palate offering abundant ripe and sappy Riesling fruit with a soft but persistent mineral piquancy as well as a sneaky acidity to enliven. It's a question of personal taste which of the two great Kabinett wines you prefer. (By the way, these are expressive, terroir-driven wines from Erstes Gewächs sites and you should treat them like crus. In other words, you should not expect to quaff them like classic Kabinett wines.
