Tasting Notes
The 2011 Phinca Encanto Rufete is produced in the Salamanca Mountains with red Rufete grapes. The wine has a dark ruby color, much darker than most other examples from the grape, and a nose that mixes red berries and strong Mediterranean herbs that I often found in [winemaker David Sampedro Gil's] reds, with an acute aroma of thyme, developing aromas of beef blood and iron with time in the glass. The wine is above all balsamic, quite showy and impressive in the nose with a medium-bodied palate with fine, sophisticated tannins, good acidity and a slightly bitter finish, coming perhaps from the oak-aging. Very pleasant but marked by the production process, not easy to identify as Rufete. Drink now-2016. Score - 92. (Luis Gutierrez,, Aug. 2014)
