Tasting Notes |
---|
As usual, a tank-raised blend of Carignan, Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah, the 2011 Cotes du Roussillon Fort St.-Pierre is utterly fascinating and clearly superior to the 2010 (which from bottle performed at the lower end of my issue 195 projection). Toasted hazelnut and hickory, artichoke and chard, elderberry and blackberry, not to forget salt and iodine, make for a nose and juicy palate that aren't at all under-ripe but whose prominence of mineral and positive vegetal flavors is - for a successful red wine - unusual as well as striking. Abundant but fine tannins along with the sense of energy conveyed in this cuvee's mouthwatering finish suggest to me that it would be well to give it another year or two in bottle and then enjoy through at least 2018. Score - 91. (David Schildknecht, erobertparker.com, Jan. 2014)
