Tasting Notes
The 2011 Cannonau di Sardegna Nepente di Oliena Classico Irilai is one of the year's best discoveries from Sardinia. The wine delivers round and ripe cherry flavors that are delicately enhanced by blackberry, sweet chocolate and tobacco. Irilai is refined in refrigerated cement tanks and later in large oak casks made with Slavonian wood. This means that the toasted wood tones are well integrated and balanced. The wine does show considerable sophistication in terms of its secondary aromas with soft and luscious layers of black fruit and spice.
