Tasting Notes
To select the lots that go into this wine (560 12-bottle cases made), winemaker Francisco Baettig chose 4.5 of the 50 hectares of pinot noir that Err�zuriz has in the Aconcagua Costa zone, about 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. It consists of three parcels with slate-rich soils, the most important of which faces south, a cooler orientation that projects that freshness onto the grapes, especially when it comes to warm years like 2019. 15% of this wine was whole-cluster fermented, and 100% of it was aged in barrels (45% new oak) for 13 months. The result is a superlative pinot with tremendous intensity but that's very fresh at the same time. The tannins construct a backbone that retains all of the fruity flavors on the mid-palate, making this a wine that offers a vertical sensation that underscores its freshness but that also underpins its body.
