The largest estate in Friuli, Borgo Magredo is situated upon poor, heavily pebbled soil. The poor soil encourages the development of wines with significant verve and definition while the pebbles retain the heat generated during the day and release it overnight, protecting the grapes from the full brunt of the bitter cold of the nighttime mountain temperatures. The name 'Mosaic' references a 6th century mosaic, created using these stones, for the Santa Eufemia Cathedral.
