Sourced from vines in excess of 45 years of age grown in the marl, clay and limestone soils of Santenay. The wines from the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune are known for their impressive ability to reflect considerable balance of ripeness and structure. Though yields were low in 2013, the wines offer great freshness and ripeness and promise to be wines with considerable cellarability. The Domaine Vincent Girardin Santenay Les Gravières Premier Cru will be a fine example of these characteristics.
Tasting Notes
Plush and textured medium-bodied wine showing sweet raspberry, cherry, plum, floral and gentle spice notes. Shapely tannins give it nice arc from mid-palate to finish. A fine 1er Cru to savour over the next 5+ years. Pair it alongside beef tenderloin with a mushroom sauce, or a robust cheese such as Époisses. (VINTAGES panel, May 2011)
