Description
Puglia is a flat, dry and sun-scorched region, as is Salento - making it the perfect place to produce wines such as Primitivo. Salento is a peninsula, and the influence of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas creates significant nighttime cooling, which allows the wines to ripen while maintaining balance. This will offer plenty of dark fruit tones with notes of tobacco and spice, and will be perfect for grilled rare steaks or blackened ribs with BBQ sauce.
Tasting Notes
The 2011 Primitivo Terragnolo sees fruit sourced from old bush vines that are pruned back to no more than eight buds in order to assure low yields. That extreme pruning - especially with an already vigorous grape like Primitivo - results in super concentrated and inky wines. This expression offers broad shoulders and a sweeping, large personality that is highlighted by jammy ripe fruit and sweet baking spice. This is the quintessential Primitivo from Puglia. Score - 89.
