TASTING NOTE : Similarly - styled , but richer , fuller and longer - lived , the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes ( from very old vines planted in clay and limestone soils ) possesses a dark plum / ruby color as well as an impressive nose of crushed rocks , cold steel , kirsch , black currant , plum and fig aromas . Medium to full - bodied with moderate tannin , it begs for 1 - 2 years of cellaring , and should last for 10 - 14 years .
