About this product
Herbsaint was created in 1934 in New Orleans by J. Marion Legendre and Reginald Parke. They wanted to develop an absinthe substitute since the use of wormwood (a prime ingredient in original absinthe) had been banned. Herbsaint was acquired by Sazerac in 1949. They changed the recipe in the 1970s, but returned to the original in 2009 when an enthusiast gave them a bottle of the original blend. This has always been an important ingredient in The Sazerac cocktail.
