High West is Utah ' s first distillery since Prohibition took effect in 1919 . They released their first whiskey in 2008 and have been receiving critical and customer acclaim ever since . The Rendezvous bottlings are a tribute to Utah ' s history too , because it celebrates the annual rendezvous of trappers and settlers which began in 1826 and took place for many years throughout the 19th century . The first event was also celebrated as the initial whiskey festival in the State .
