Tasting Notes
Planted in 1968, we are now coming up on the 50th birthday of the oldest vines that produce this venerated wine. The vineyard is located on the top of a perfectly round hill and with various replanting efforts over the years, the average age of the vines is 30 years old. This means they are in their prime. The 2014 Le Pergole Torte is a first selection of the property's best clusters and of course fruit selection was extremely stringent in this challenging vintage. In fact, 26,000 bottles were produced. This may not be the best vintage of Le Pergole Torte ever made, however it remains a wine of impressive ambition and personality. You only really test the ability of a winemaker in the off-vintages. This is an elegantly etched red wine that opens to a dark ruby color and intense aromas of bright cherry, violets and balsam herb.
