Grard Bertrand began working with Clos d'Ora 1997 and only released the first wines (from the 2012 vintage) in 2014, when he felt that he was truly expressing the terroir of this remarkable site. The nine-hectare Clos d'Ora vineyard is enclosed by walls and farmed using biodynamic practices, including the use of mules and horses. The vineyard is planted to Syrah, Mourvdre, Grenache and very old Carignan. Bertrand has said that Clos d'Ora represents a newfound focus for him: 'I turned 50 three months ago and I want now to make tribute wines. This is what I want to do for the next 30 years: to capture the essence of the terroir (thedrinksbusiness.com, April 9, 2015).'
