Tasting Notes
This estate opened a new chapter with Charles Sparr, 26, recently taking over from his father Pierre. He is slowly replanting in the seven hectares of grand cru vineyards belonging to the domaine, including this Schoenenbourg. The vineyard enjoys southward exposure at the end of a valley on a steep slope with soils of gravel and siliceous sandstone, shell limestone and gypsum. 2012 was the first vintage that the wine was made entirely biodynamically. The wine was fermented for about three months on fine lees with no chaptalisation. Thierry Meyer: Intense, fruity and citrus-like aromas. The palate is full bodied and fresh with some sweetness and minerality. Long finish with pink grapefruit aromas. Complex and racy; a great wine. Marcel Orford-Williams: Clarity here. Lovely fruit with piercing acidity and great length. Gorgeous. Eric Zwiebel MS: Mature nose that is full of mushrooms, with a juicy, salty finish. Drinking Window: 2017-2027. Score - 95.
