About this product
R. López de Heredia is one of Rioja's great traditionalist winemakers. They control all aspects of their production including having their own cooperage to make the barrels to age their wines. And they do age them. This 2005 is considered an 'early release' for the winery. They believe in giving their wines substantial ageing in their cellars (in barrel first and then bottle) before release, and this is such an example. Enticing aromas of cherry, anise and tobacco should be front and centre. Expect lovely fruit tones and soft tannins on the palate, but it will also age another 5+ years in a good cellar. Enjoy it tonight with tapas or mezze dishes.
