Tasting Notes
The Clos du Roi vineyard is regarded as one of the best parcels in Beaune. It was once responsible for much of the wines served to the French kings at Versailles. This one from Robert Ampeau et Fils will have evolved flavours of dried herbs and fruit, but these are wines built for longevity, and you will encounter a wine that's still retaining considerable freshness and vitality in its red fruit. Expect an elegant, refined wine, with mineral, earth and smoke notes wrapped around a core of red cherry. This 25-year-old will have many years ahead of it yet.
