Founded in 1982, Muriel is actually the continuation of owner Julian Murua's father's winery which opened in 1926. Time is always an important factor in Rioja, where the tradition of aging wines in barrel and bottle before the wines are deemed ready to be sold is etched in law. Gran Reserva wines, such as this one, must be aged for a minimum of 60 months, with at least 24 months spent in barrel and 36 months spent in bottle. This will be a classically styled wine with notes of dried fruit and tobacco in a refined and round frame. It will bring instant class to your holiday meal.

Tasting Notes
Bright red. Pungent, spice-tinged cherry and raspberry aromas, along with hints of coconut and woodsmoke. Silky and open-knit, showing very good clarity and energy to the sweet red fruit, rose pastille and spicecake flavors. Delivers a solid punch of flavor but comes off lithe, showing no rough edges on the long, subtly tannic finish. Drinking window: 2019-2025. Score - 91. (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Feb. 2019)
