Tasting Notes
The 2011 Syrah Turtles Vineyard was aged for 12 months in second-use French oak and comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Quite beautifully crafted, this elegant Syrah is automatically moved to the top of the list as one of my favorite Syrahs from Alpha Estate. Silky in texture and laced with hints of Syrah funk, it is tightly wound and gripping on the palate, with a crisp and sunny demeanor. It is not very fleshy. Neither thick nor jammy, but rather subtly concentrated and perfectly balanced, it leans to the northern Rhone. The price is really nice, too. Drink: 2015-2024. Score - 90.
