Tasting Notes
Made with two-thirds malbec and one-third carm�n�re, all mixed together in the vineyard in the Las Cruces zone in Pichidegua back in 1957, these grapes have been used for Old Vine since the 2003 vintage. This 2.7-hectare vineyard has belonged to De Martino since 2011, and this year they have achieved one of the best versions to date. The two varieties were co-fermented and then aged in 2,500-foudres for a year and a half before being bottled. It's impressive to see how the malbec takes over in this wine - its floral aromas and black cherries, the firm structure of a serious malbec - one of those wines you sometimes find in Altamira or from the more calcareous soils in Gualtallary. This wine has that same seriousness, that same austerity. [This will cellar through 2028.] Score - 97. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2020)
